Five Tips to Make Your Life as a New Mom Easier (And Less Expensive)

1. STOP COOKING. These days there are so many ways to avoid cooking, yet still put tasty, nutritious food on the table. First of all, if you don’t mind a little company, take friends and relatives up on their offers to bring you dinner. You simply can’t do it all, and you shouldn’t, if loved ones want to make you casseroles, let ‘em. And they’ll generally be happy to just drop the food and run – they know you’re exhausted and can barely string your shoe laces together, let alone string enough words together to make a decent sentence. Or better still, order dinner from a home delivery service. Munchery is my favorite. Their in-house chefs create delicious, generously portioned meals at an affordable price, and they’re delivered to your home at a time that’s convenient for you. You order online, the food arrives that evening – it could not be more convenient. If you place your first order using this link: https://munchery.com/invite/FOODWIZARD you’ll save $20 right off the top (that should cover two entrees), and no minimum purchase is required. Enjoy dinner on me tonight!

2. ORDER DIAPERS. Your kid is going to go through a lot of diapers, the last thing you want is to run out at an inconvenient time or find yourself needing to go to the store week after week to replenish your supply – skip the store, order your diapers online. My favorite service is Honest Co. The diapers are a little kinder to the environment and they come in cute prints (diaper changes are not all that fun, why not make them a bit more exciting with a cute diaper?). Honest Co. allows you to order a la carte or bundle your order for regular delivery. Use this link to save $20 off your first order at Honest: http://www.honest.com/refer_to/669516.

3. BUY ORGANIC BABY FOOD PUREES.Unless making your own baby food sounds like a fun way to burn stress, skip it, your time is precious. There are several varieties of organic baby food that have simple, safe, healthy ingredients that you can buy for your little one once she starts eating solids, and they’re not as expensive as you might think. I prefer the pureed food that comes in pouches, they cut down on packaging and mess. Try Plum Organics, Gerber’s organic line, or Happy Baby Organic Baby Food. If you order through AmazonSmile, you can save money and contribute to a favorite charitable cause. Always look for a coupon code before ordering too. I regularly spend 25% less on these purees than I would if I bought them at the grocery store.

4. SHOP FOR CASUAL WEAR ONLINE. When home with your little one, your best friends, clothing wise, will be yoga pants, hoodies, and long tanks. Find a couple staples that work for you and order from the couch. Old Navy was my go-to while on maternity leave. And if you sign up for their newsletters, they’ll mail you coupons. If you have a Gap, Old Navy, or Banana Republic credit card, you can save even more. I earn $10 rewards through my card regularly, and there’s no minimum purchase, so I usually just treat myself to one sale item when a reward coupon shows up. Hoodies and leggings were my favorite things to wear during the early months of motherhood.

5. SHOP FOR CLOTHING STAPLES FOR YOUR BABY ONLINE. Everyone has their favorite sleeper – my baby is long, so certain styles and brands fit better than others, and I much prefer zippers to snaps. Find what you like, and then just order it in the next size up when your baby outgrows the item. Carter’s has a great selection of baby clothing online and they also have a terrific coupon program – on top of their already reasonable prices. I’ve purchased this sleeper in three different sizes already.

Whatever you do, do what's right for you! Being a good mom doesn't mean you have to do everything the hard, painstaking way, sometimes taking advantage of convenience services and items can really lighten your load and reduce your stress. Happy mom, happy baby!

Whaaa...That's a THING?!

It's Wednesday, and I've been seriously neglecting this blog, so this really should be a Crock Pot Crosspost, but I have to go to the dentist in a few minutes, so I'm in no mood to think about crockery at this time.

Instead, this will just be a regular variety crosspost. Coming to you aaaall the way from beautiful downtown Persephone Magazine... 10 Things That I Can't Believe Are Actually "A Thing".
Please read moi.

Merci.

I don't know why I'm demi speaking en français. Nevertheless, bon Mercredi.

CPCP: You Have Beautiful Eyeballs

Today's Crosspost comes from Persephone Magazine, my favorite ever online feminist mag. And, yes, I wrote it. We've already addressed the fact that I'm very self-promotional, so get off my beans about it!
